Singer and multi-instrumentalist Silas Short is the latest addition to the Stones Throw family. Silas’ music is where soul and classic R&B meet. Reminiscent of D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, his musical compositions also channel a range of artists from Mos Def and Stevie Wonder to Radiohead and Björk.
Chicago-based Silas Short had a rough time growing up as a mixed-race child in the suburbs of Milwaukee, but he found solace and inspiration in music through his older brother who played drums for the church’s gospel band. After Silas shattered a bone in his left hand while delivering pizzas and was told by a doctor that he'd never play guitar again, he stuck through the pain and went on to develop a method of guitar playing he describes as "Liquid Style".
The seven pieces that make up Drawing are the product of Silas using the lockdowns of 2020 as an opportunity to discover his true sound. With his honest and vulnerable yet uplifting sound, Silas hopes to honour his biracial heritage and create a safe space for others like him.
